Course Maintenance
As we head towards the final week before Christmas, here is some information about how the winter work is progressing
- All slitting of fairways will be completed before Christmas
- Verti draining of tees and approaches done
- The greens will receive a verti drain in the new year as weather dictates
- Refacing and turfing of bunkers completed with just the sand to be replaced in the coming months
- Enlarged 6th medal tee has been held up by rootzone supply. As soon as this arrives we will finish levelling the tee and get the new turf down. Making this tee larger will give divot scars longer to repair and also gives the opportunity of a different angle into the green when the markers are to the right side of the tee.
- Drains installed on 1st and 9th greens on west water
- Cores from hollow coring used to repair damaged areas from the tidy up after the storms
- We have started to fell the “ugliest” of the broken trees left standing, this will be an ongoing process
We have now had a prolonged period of hard frosts which will have penetrated deep into the ground. As we move forward it is vital that we wait until the frost is completely out before allowing play on the greens. Depending on weather this can be frustrating period as the greens may look frost free on the surface, but are still solid underneath.
The following is a document explaining this further. Click here to read.

Coronavirus Update – 20th April 2020
Although we continue to be in lockdown it is essential that we try to maintain the quality of our golf courses.
We have a small dedicated team of greenstaff who are out on courses on a daily basis ensuring they can keep Edzell in the best possible shape.
The images below show just how fantasic a job they are doing.

Edzell Wildlife!
Waxwings – December 2016
You may have noticed this stunning little bird recently on the golf course. The waxwings have been flocking around the ladies/winter 10th tee where there are three white berry rowans.
These birds are yearly visitors to UK from Scandinavia and in some years their population burgeons. This is called an “irruption” (not “eruption”)…so the RSPB says. Large clouds of them, probably numbering up to a hundred have been seen settling on the rowans round the course, stripping them of berries.
